A handcuffed man who ran from police officers this morning was found a short time later hiding under a boat, McKees Rocks police said.
McKees Rocks police Chief Robert Cifrulak said L.G. Street, 20, had run from officers who were taking him into custody and now faces charges including escape, aggravated assault, possession of marijuana, possession with intent to deliver and receiving stolen property.
He is awaiting arraignment.
Shortly before 10 a.m. police went to the 300 block of Helen Street for a report that an armed man was inside a woman's apartment and that a restraining order prohibited him from being there.
The call was made by the woman's mother, who was concerned because she said the man had threatened her daughter in the past, Chief Cifrulak said.
Police responded and ordered the occupants to open the door. They heard a commotion and Mr. Street ran out the back and Stowe police officers arrested him, Chief Cifrulak said.
As Mr. Street was being escorted to the police car, he bolted and headed toward the borough's Bottoms neighborhood, the chief said. Police set up a two-block perimeter and Allegheny County sheriff's deputies with dogs helped in the search.
Two McKees Rocks police officers, David Finerty and Ryan Coll, were on traffic enforcement detail when they, too, came down to help.
Chief Cifrulak said the pair found Mr. Street underneath the boat, which was on a trailer in the 100 block of Catherine Street.
"It was good police work," Chief Cifrulak said.
With the owner's consent, police searched the apartment and found a stolen Glock pistol, money and what they believe is heroin hidden in a bassinet, Chief Cifrulak said.
The woman who lives there was inside with Mr. Street's infant child.
