Bethel Park -- John McMillan Church preschool will host a free spring carnival from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at its preschool, 875 Clifton Road. Activities will include children's games and face painting. Bethel Park police will enroll children in an ID program for safety.

Castle Shannon -- Baby and toddler music time will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursdays through May 16 at Castle Shannon Public Library, 3677 Myrtle Ave. Caregivers must attend. Registration: 412-563-4552 or


Peters -- Peters Creek Presbyterian Church, 250 Brookwood Road, will hold a strawberry festival, including fried chicken, roast beef, sides and strawberry shortcake, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. May 31. Bethel Park -- South Arts will hold a dinner, fundraiser and art show opening from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Historic Schoolhouse, 2600 South Park Road. Tickets for a Cinco de Mayo dinner are $10 and can be purchased at the door. The Cinco de Mayo art show is open to the public from noon to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays through June 1.

Pleasant Hills -- The Pleasant Hills Lions Club will hold its G-r-reat Giveaway, a fundraising event featuring fast-paced raffles with more than 250 prizes including sporting goods, toys and jewelry, at 7 p.m. Saturday at Pleasant Hills Community Presbyterian Church, 199 Old Clairton Road. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Castle Shannon -- The Heritage Players are accepting online reservations for the murder mystery dinner theater fundraiser, "Till Death Do Us Part," with performances scheduled for 7 p.m. May 18 and 2 p.m. May 19 at Castle Shannon borough building, 3310 McRoberts Road. Pleasant Hills -- The Pleasant Hills Lions Club will hold a farmers market from 3:30 to 7 p.m. every Thursday from May 16 through Oct. 17 in the parking lot of Pleasant Hills Community Presbyterian Church, 199 Old Clairton Road.


Baldwin Borough -- St. Elizabeth of Hungary Parish will host a bereavement support group covering a range of topics on grief from 8:30 to 10 a.m. May 15, 22 and 29 in Room 202 of St. Pius X Hall on the St. Elizabeth campus at One Grove Place. Registration: 412-207-1655.

Scott -- The Hilltoppers of Scott Township, a senior citizen group, will hold its monthly meeting at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Covenant-Community Presbyterian Church, 1630 Greentree Road. Bring a bag lunch. Dessert is provided and beverage is available. The meeting will end with demonstrations by a representative of the Carnegie Science Center.


Nottingham -- The Washington County Department of Parks and Recreation will offer a campfire jam with country and blue grass music at 7 p.m. May 23 in Shelter 4 at Mingo Creek County Park. Bring a chair or blanket. Pre-registration required: 724-228-6867.


Dormont -- The Pittsburgh Area Theatre Organ Society will present a showing of Harold Lloyd's silent film, "The Kid Brother," accompanied by Clark Wilson on the Mighty Wurlitzer Theatre Pipe Organ at 2 p.m. Saturday at Keystone Oaks High School auditorium, 1000 Kelton Ave. Admission: $20 at the door.


Upper St. Clair -- A used-book sale to raise funds for the Upper St. Clair Library will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. next Thursdasy, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 10 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 11 at the township municipal building, 1820 McLaughlin Run Road. Preview night on Wednesday is free for members of Friends of the Library and $5 for nonmembers. The final day of the sale is a $5 bag day.


Bethel Park -- St. Clair Hospital is sponsoring its annual free screening for skin cancer from 6 to 7:30 p.m May 14 in Suite 115 of St. Clair Hospital Outpatient Center, 2000 Oxford Drive. Space is limited. appointments are necessary. Registration: 412-942-5082.

Mt. Lebanon -- St. Winifred Women's Guild will hold its Spring Fling card party and luncheon from noon to 3 p.m. May 18 in Benedict Hall at St. Winifred Church, 550 Sleepy Hollow Road. Cost: $12.

Peters -- St. Peter's Creek Presbyterian, 250 Brookwood Road, will hold two services, at 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. May 12, to talk about friendships and how to improve them.

South Park -- An informal knitting group, which meets one Saturday a month, will meet at 11 a.m. May 11 to knit. All knitters welcome. No registration necessary.


Peters -- Peters Township Public Library and Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Park Post 764 are co-sponsoring a book talk with author Todd DePastino on his book, "Bill Mauldin: A Life Up Front" from 7 to 8:30 p.m. next Thursday at the library, 616 E. South Park -- Mary Frailey Calland, author of "Consecrated Dust," will discuss the Allegheny Arsenal tragedy at 1 p.m. May 22 at South Park Township Library, 2575 Brownsville Road. She will sign and sell copies of her book for $15. Registration: 412-833-5585.
