An 80-year-old man died this morning after firefighters pulled him from a burning house in Peters.
Washington County Coroner Tim Warco identified the victim as Robert Gary McLaughlin of Locust Drive.
A Washington County emergency dispatch supervisor said the fire was reported at 6:47 a.m. in the 2700 block of Locust Drive. Initial reports indicated one man was trapped inside the house. A second person had been able to escape, the supervisor said.
Firefighters had the blaze under control and the man rescued by 7:05 a.m. He was transported Canonsburg General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead in the emergency room at 7:40 a.m.
Township police and a fire marshal from the state police Washington barracks were investigating.
