Allegheny County homicide detectives and McKeesport police are investigating a hit-and-run this morning that killed a pedestrian.
A woman was walking in the 600 block of Lysle Boulevard in McKeesport, near the Sunoco gas station, when she was hit sometime after 4 a.m. and thrown onto the sidewalk, according to a press release from county police Lt. Andrew Schurman.
The driver did not stop.
The Allegheny County medical examiner's office identified the woman as Lorraine Wilkes, 56, of McKeesport.
Because she was thrown onto the sidewalk -- near a flower bed or mulch -- passers-by may not have spotted her, county police said in the release.
Ms. Wilkes was found about 4:45 a.m. and taken by ambulance to UPMC Mercy, where she was pronounced dead at 7:11 a.m.
Based on debris found at the scene, detectives believe the vehicle involved was a Jeep Cherokee manufactured between 1997 and 2011, county police said.
Surveillance video from nearby businesses may help determine the color.
County police asked anyone with information to call their homicide unit at 412-473-1300 or McKeesport police.
