A Mount Oliver man is facing several animal cruelty charges after shooting his dog in the head with a crossbow.
Jesse Fitzgerald, 31, was arrested shortly after midnight at the home he shares with his mother, Kathy Timlin, in the 300 block of Giffin Ave. According to the criminal complaint, Ms. Timlin heard the dog yelping inside the home and thought her son injured the animal. Mr. Fitzgerald initially told police the dog was fine and was being sold to a friend but confessed to the crime after hearing police found him injured on Fernleaf Street. He told officers he tried to pull the arrow from the dog's head after the shooting but was unsuccessful. There was no reason given why the dog was shot.
Mr. Fitzgerald is facing two counts of animal cruelty. The dog, a two-year-old brown and white pitbull named Kila, was alive when found by police.
