Pleasant Hills -- Preschool story time for children ages 31/2 to 5, including stories, songs, a craft and a snack, will be held at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Dec. 18 at the Pleasant Hills Public Library, 302 Old Clairton Road. No registration required.

Bethel Park -- Bethel Park Lions Club is selling 20-pound boxes of Texas ruby red grapefruit for $15, navel oranges for $16.50, mixed boxes of oranges and grapefruit for $16, and 1-pound bags of pecans for $11.50. Order by Tuesday: 412-854-4762.

Whitehall -- Baldwin Community Methodist Women will hold its annual homemade cookie sale from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Dec. 8 at the church, 5001 Baptist Road. Cookies will be sold at $8 per pound. Proceeds benefit missions for women, children and youth.

FUNDRAISERS

Whitehall -- The Sisters of St. Francis of the Providence of God are selling pumpkin spice, hazelnut, French vanilla and hazelnut de-caf coffee during the holiday season in 12-ounce bags for $9.99, with profits going to defray the cost of caring for retired and infirm sisters. Minimum order that can be sent through the mail is 2 bags. HOLIDAY EVENTS

Bethel Park -- Christmas gifts can be purchased at a craft and vendor sale from noon to 4 p.m. Dec. 2 at Hamilton Presbyterian Church, 4500 Hamilton Road. Demonstrations, such as bow-making, will be held every 30 minutes. California -- California United Methodist Church will hold its annual homemade Christmas cookie sale at 9:45 a.m. Dec. 1 at 227 Third and Liberty sreets. Different cookies will be available for $12 per box.

Castle Shannon -- The Castle Shannon Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary will sponsor a holiday craft show/bake sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday in Castle Shannon Memorial Hall, Route 88 and Grove Road.

Green Tree -- St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic School, 915 Alice St., will hold a holiday craft show from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 1, including lunch, a bake sale and raffles.

OUTDOORS

Nottingham -- The Amateur Astronomers Association of Pittsburgh will hold a free Bundle-up Starfest starting at 5:15 p.m. Saturday at Mingo Creek Park Observatory, 10 Shelter Way. Event will be held rain or shine. Directions: www.3ap.org.

PERFORMANCES

Finleyville -- The Ringgold Middle School Band and PTA will host a free band concert with tributes to the military featuring the Greater Monongahela Community Band at 2 p.m. Sunday in Ringgold Middle School auditorium, 6023 Route 88. A short reception will follow.

Mt. Lebanon -- The Book Cellar, a store in the basement of Mt. Lebanon Public Library, will hold a holiday sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday. Holiday books, DVDs, CDs and decorative items will be available.

SPECIAL INTEREST

Baldwin Borough -- Baldwin Borough Public Library will hold a free event to remember World War II from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the borough municipal building, 3344 Churchview Ave. Information: 412-885-2255.

Bethel Park -- The Rev. Hugh Burns, a Dominican preacher, will conduct a parish mission titled "Get Real: Religion with Two Feet on the Ground" at 7 p.m. Dec. 1 at St. Valentine Church, 2710 Ohio St. Subsequent talks on topics such as Christian joy and coping with anger will be held at the church at 7 p.m. Dec. 3-5, with a Mass at 11 a.m. Dec. 5.
