A McKeesport father and son who told investigators they work in education were arrested Friday after investigators charged them with possessing child pornography and other offenses.
Investigators with the McKeesport Police Department and the state attorney general's office began their probe in November, when a woman told police that someone claiming to be a 16-year-old boy named "Matt Williams" had sent a lewd photograph and written accounts of sexual activities to her 13-year-old daughter via Facebook.
Agents traced the IP address to a home on Golfview Drive in McKeesport. When they searched the home, they found a phone operating the Facebook account for a "Matt Williams" in the bedroom of 34-year-old Charles South, who told agents he worked for the online Education Management Corp., according to a criminal complaint. Further investigation found that Mr. South had befriended hundreds of children on the site and had "inappropriate" contact with six teen girls ranging from ages 13 to 18 and an undercover agent posing as a 15-year-old, investigators said.
While searching the home, agents also found evidence that Mr. South's father, Henry Benton South, 68, had 24 images of child pornography and had "favorites" on his computer labeled "teenage pornography" and/or "teenage sex," according to a complaint.
The elder Mr. South told investigators he worked as a technology director for the McKeesport Area School District.
Both the elder and the younger Mr. South were being held in the Allegheny County Jail on $100,000 bail Friday night.
