For someone who says he really enjoys the outdoors, Terry Wiltrout found his career in an indoor setting.
Canonsburg General Hospital recently named the Fredericktown resident interim CEO, taking on the responsibilities of outgoing CEO and hospital president Kim Malinky, who is retiring in August.
Mr. Wiltrout, 38, will be responsible for all operations, government regulatory compliance and relationship with the hospital's 200 physicians to ensure quality health care at the 104-bed facility.
"Terry has a proven track record and has gained the leadership skills and respect from employees and community leaders to continue to reach the mission and purpose of the hospital," said Mrs. Malinky, who has been the hospital's CEO since July 2003 and has been with the hospital for 27 years.
Mr. Wiltrout and Mrs. Malinsky worked together in administration for the past eight years.
Starting off as a computer operator for the health care network in 1991, Mr. Wiltrout has since held many positions with West Penn Allegheny Health System, of which Canonsburg General is a component. In 2003, he joined the staff as director of information technology and, a year later, was named director of operations. Since 2007, he has served as vice president of operations.
While working full time, he attended Waynesburg University, where he earned a master's in business administration in health systems administration in 2009.
Mr. Wiltrout, an avid outdoors enthusiast, also manages to enjoy the outdoors with his sons, David, 10, and Nicholas, 7, doing things like off-road bike riding. Last year, he coached David's baseball team and managed to catch Nicholas' soccer games. His new position as interim CEO will probably cut into his recreational time, but he said he realized this before he accepted the position.
Mr. Wiltrout said his long-term goal was to get the job permanently. The hospital is starting the formal hiring process.
Mr. Wiltrout is an active member of Canonsburg-Houston Rotary, McMurray Rotary and the Washington-Mon Valley American Heart Association Heart Walk Committee. He is also a recent graduate of Leadership Washington County.
