St. James hosts farmers' market

Vegetables, organic farm products, meats, honey, pierogies, pasta and other products are available from more than 35 farmers and merchants at the weekly farmers' market from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays at St. James Catholic Church lot, 200 Walnut St.

The markets will continue through the end of November.

High school concert choir performs

The Fox Chapel Area High School Concert Choir will present a full performance of "Saint Francis in the Americas: A Caribbean Mass" written by Glenn McClure, a music professor at Eastman School of Music, at 7 p.m. Sunday in the Fox Chapel Area High School auditorium, 611 Field Club Road, O'Hara.

The work is being performed in collaboration with Panloco, a steel drum ensemble from Rochester, New YorkN.Y.

The work mixes traditional parts of the Mass with several of the writings of St. Francis of Assisi with musical styles of the New World. The Fox Chapel Area High School Madrigal Singers, Men's Choir, Women's Choir, and Vulpes Cantantes also will also be perform.

A donation of $10 per person will be accepted for admission. Tickets can be purchased through any choir member or at

Tickets also will be available at the high school auditorium box office from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. Tickets also will be sold at the door, pending availability.


Meet employers at career fair

WorkAble, a partnership of North Hills Community Outreach(NHCO), the Career Development Center (CDC)of Jewish Family & Children's Service of Pittsburgh (JF&CS) and South Hills Interfaith Ministry (SHIM),will hold a career fair from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday in the Millvale Community Center, 416 Lincoln Ave.

Among the employers expected to be present will be Advanced Sourcing Concepts, FedEx Ground, Giant Eagle, Goodwill Industries, Lowe's Home Improvement, PNC Bank, Presbyterian Senior Care, Rivers Casino, University of Pittsburgh, and UPMC.

The career fair is free. Participants must register, by calling 412-487-6316, opt. 2, ext. 3216, cqand and indicate a desired time slot of 9-10, 10-11 or 11-noon to meet with employers.

WorkAble is a county-wide employment and critical needs service for adults struggling with finances. The agency serves unemployed and underemployed individuals throughout Allegheny County.


Cheerleaders join for annual coat drive

High school cheerleaders from North Allegheny and North Hills are sponsoring their seventh Unite on Game Night coat drive to benefit North Hills Community Outreach's Free Coat Shop.

Donations will be accepted during the North Allegheny-North Hills football game at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 25 at Martorelli Stadium, Route 19, West View.

Cheerleaders will be at the stadium gates to accept donations of clean, gently worn coats of all sizes. Any North Hills fan who brings a coat to the game will receive a free North Hills giveaway item.

Coats also can also be dropped at the North Hills athletics and activities office in the high school Monday through Oct. 25 during the school day.

In six years, the cheerleaders have collected more than 3,500 coats.
