Making good on an announcement Monday that they would "actively" patrol the Parkway North HOV lanes, Pennsylvania State Police issued more than 60 citations this morning for drivers using the lanes without other people in the vehicle.

The citations cost a little more than $100, said Trooper Robin Mungo, community relations officer in the Moon barracks. The enforcement detail from 7:30 to 9 a.m. today also yielded 14 warnings, she said in a press release.

State police will continue to issue citations for HOV violations.

On Monday, in another press release, state police reminded drivers that the lanes, designed to promote ride-sharing and reduce congestion, are restricted to vehicles with more than one occupant. They carry inbound traffic from 6 to 10 a.m. and outbound traffic from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.
