Nine people were arrested for drunken driving this weekend as a result of a sobriety check in Shaler and Etna by members of the North Hills DUI Task Force.
The sobriety checkpoint began Friday night.
A news release from the task force indicated that the checkpoints were stationed along Route 8. Some 1,620 vehicles passed through. Sixteen people were administered field sobriety tests with nine being arrested for drunken driving. Fifteen citations were issued for various vehicle code violations.
This is the 17th year of operations for the North Hills DUI Task Force and to date, 774 arrests have been made. The task force is comprised of police officers from Etna, Indiana, Northern Regional, O'Hara, Ross, Shaler, West Deer and West View police departments.
