A Shaler woman shot by her husband inside the family's home early Thursday has made some progress in her recovery, according to a hospital official.
Charlene Edwards, 51, a patient care technician at UPMC Passavant, was upgraded Friday from critical to fair condition at Allegheny General Hospital, spokesman Dan Laurent said.
Her son, Jimmy Edwards, 21, remained in critical condition at the hospital's trauma unit, Mr. Laurent said.
Allegheny County police have said that James Edwards, 52, went room to room in the family's Winterset Drive home about 3 a.m. Thursday shooting his wife, son and daughter before he turned the gun on himself. Mr. Edwards and his daughter, Laurin Edwards, 19, died inside the home.
Police said James Edwards had been suspended from his job as an electrician for the Allegheny County Airport Authority six days earlier.
