A Natrona Heights man was sentenced today to three years and a month in federal prison for defrauding companies out of some $600,000 worth of merchandise.
Andrew A. Demasi, 63, was also ordered to pay $601,470 in restitution. He pleaded guilty to mail fraud in April.
He and a partner, Ronald Halpern, 64, set up A & R Services, which bought and sold linens, sports-related merchandise and novelty items for resale, including Pittsburgh Steelers merchandise.
Federal prosecutors said the pair obtained the merchandise by applying for extensions of credit from the various manufacturers, shipping companies and wholesalers based on false financial information about their company and did not intend to pay for shipments they received.
Mr. Halpern was sentenced in May to two years in prison.
