The Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District will open locks 6 and 7 on the Allegheny River to recreational boats for the next two weekends.

The locks, at Freeport and Kittanning, typically are closed to recreational boaters. Starting today, they will be open from 12:30 to 8:30 p.m. on the next two Saturdays and Sundays.

The corps urged boaters to use caution in approaching the locks because recent high water might have shifted warning buoys.
