An Allison Park couple filed a lawsuit Wednesday against the caretakers who were responsible for their 2-month-old son when the infant died last November.
Leanne and Ronald Talik are accusing Lynn and Edward Schmidt of causing the wrongful death of their son, Connor Talik, due to negligence.
Mr. and Mrs. Schmidt left Connor unattended for more than two hours while he was asleep on his stomach. By the time the child was checked on, he was not breathing and was unresponsive. Connor was transported to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC, but was pronounced dead within the hour.
According to the lawsuit, the Schmidts were running an unregistered and uncertified child care center in their Gibsonia home. They often supervised up to seven children under the age of 15 at one time.
Connor's parents have requested a jury trial and are seeking damages. Mr. and Mrs. Schmidt could not be reached for comment.
