McCandless has been named a 2013 Banner Community by the Allegheny League of Municipalities for "providing effective, efficient and accountable services to its residents and businesses."
Volunteers are invited to a tree care event at 5:30 p.m. today on the hillside along East Ohio Street next to Route 28. The Western Pennsylvania Conservancy will provide safety vests and gloves as well as pizza and refreshments.
Waste Management has identified 31 streets as exempt from automated recycling pickup.
The waste hauler notified Ross that it is not feasible for residents of those streets to use the new 65-gallon containers, which can be picked up with a robotic arm from the truck.
Residents are being notified to continue using the blue bins. The 65-gallon containers will be picked up.
These streets has been designated as exempt:
Cedar Drive, Celmar Street, Cleveland Avenue, Cold Spring Drive, Courtney Mill, Decker Lane, Elliot Lane, Fairley Road, Grace Drive, Hanway Street, Heiber Avenue, Katherine Street, Laurel Court, Lipp Avenue (number 6, 20 and 22), Malvern Street, Milbert Lane, Oakridge Lane (numbers 101, 103, 107, 109), Penbyrn Road, Reel Avenue, Rockridge Road, Scherling Street, Schuetzen Park Road, Sixth Avenue, Smith Street, Springview Road, Stevens Drive, Sunny Drive, Swan View Drive, Sylvia Avenue, Third Street (numbers 211 and 213) and Zug Avenue.
