Ross man indicted for cashing dead mother's Social Security checks

A Ross man has been indicted for cashing his deceased mother's Social Security checks for nearly 40 years, U.S. Attorney David J. Hickton's office announced today.

Chauncey Clinton, 65, started cashing and using his mother's benefit checks shortly after her May 7, 1973, death, Mr. Hickton's office alleged in a press release. He used $304,853 of her benefits before they were stopped in April, according to the release.

Mr. Clinton could not be reached for comment.
