Allegheny County Common Pleas Judge Jeffrey A. Manning today approved a petition-to-relocate request by a Franklin Park couple accused of abusing their two adopted children last fall.
Douglas and Kristen Barbour asked to be allowed to move to Mercer County, where Mr. Barbour's parents live, in a bail-condition hearing this morning.
Attorney Charles Porter, representing Mr. Barbour, said the family needs to move for financial reasons and that they plan to live with Mr. Barbour's parents.
Mr. Barbour has been suspended from his job as a deputy attorney general. The couple is in the process of selling their home because they cannot afford to live there anymore.
The Barbours are accused of withholding food from their 6-year-old adopted son, as well as causing head trauma to their adopted daughter, who was then 19 months old. They adopted both children from Ethiopia.
Their trial is scheduled for July 9. They are not accused of abusing their two biological children.
