Shaler Area school board unanimously approved its preliminary general fund budget for the 2013-14 school year at its voting meeting Wednesday night.
Charlie Bennett, director of business affairs, said the current budget, which shows expenditures exceeding revenues by almost $2.4 million, has been approved so it can be displayed for the required 30 days.
He said the $74,660,954 in expenditures will be whittled through teacher retirements and other avenues and the final budget will be voted on at the June 19 voting meeting.
Four of those retirements were unanimously approved at the May meeting. They include Elaine Robbins, high school chemistry teacher; Catherine Bailey,
Burchfield Primary special education teacher; Patsy Frankle, middle school nurse; and William Tomicek, Burchfield Primary principal.
