A Franklin man has been charged with criminal homicide in connection with the shooting death of a 58-year-old man whose body was found outside his burning van in Mercer County in December, according to state police in Mercer.

Ralph Leroy Young, 45, was arrested at his home today and is being held without bail in the Mercer County Jail in connection with the shooting death of David Allan Dignall of Carlton on Dec. 20, state police said.

Mr. Dignall's body was discovered, shot at least once and partially burned, by state troopers and firefighters after they responded to a report of a car fire on Hollabaugh Road in French Creek Township. Mr. Dignall was determined by the Erie County Coroner's office to have died from a single gunshot wound and the shooting was ruled a homicide, according to state police. A preliminary hearing for Mr. Young will be held May 22.
