The Mars Area school board Tuesday hired James Budzilek as superintendent.
Mr. Budzilek has been superintendent of the Leechburg Area School District in Armstrong County for nine years. He has also worked as a principal, assistant principal, secondary science teacher and athletic coach in the Leechburg Area and South Butler districts.
He will begin work Aug. 5, and his salary will be $138,000 a year.
Longtime Mars Area superintendent William Pettigrew will retire in December. Between August and December, Mr. Budzilek will serve as the assistant to the superintendent.
The vote to hire Mr. Budzilek was 6-1 with Christine Valenta dissenting. Board members Ross McConnell and Jane Dunn were absent.
