Ross Township commissioners today rejected approval of a planned residential development at the site of the former Highland Country Club.
Limerick Land Partners planned 134 single-family homes and 167 townhouses on the property.
Approval of the development failed 4-5. Commissioners Dan DeMarco, Peter Ferraro, David Mikec and John Sponcer voted in favor. Chris Eyster, Lana Mazur, Gerald O'Brien, Grace Stanko and commission Chairman Grant Montgomery voted against.
Jonathan Kamin, the attorney for the developer, said the commissioners made "a political decision that is short-sighted," and said he will appeal to Allegheny County Common Pleas Court.
Approximately 80 residents attended the meeting, and many spoke against the project.
