Council members have given Forbes Trail Development Co. the go-ahead to begin construction of a three-story, 30,000 square-foot office building on Thorn Street.

The building will be part of the Theater Square project on the site of the former Ascot Imported Cars dealership in the Village district of the borough.

The planned building is "the type of space that we currently do not have here in Sewickley," said project manager Peter Friday at the March 18 council meeting.

Mr. Friday said that it will be a "fun-looking building," with a glass chandelier sculpture created by a Pittsburgh artist. The building also will have a special landscape design, a "green" roof, and will be as energy-efficient as possible.

Builders will not only try to use all materials made in the United States, but plan to use materials from areas close to Sewickley. For example, bricks and pavers for the building will be brought in from Harmarville.

"It has been a fun process. It has been a long process," Mr. Friday said.

Forbes Trail Development Co. purchased the property from First Commonwealth Bank in June. Before that, the bank acquired the lots from a sheriff's sale after Ascot's closing.

The township will begin its 2013 road resurfacing project on June 3.

The commissioners are accepting bids on the project and are expected to select a contractor at their monthly meeting at 7 p.m. April 9.

Paving 39 roads will cost the township about $1.3 million and is the largest resurfacing project to date, according to Tim Rogers, township manager. As approved unanimously by the commissioners at this month's meeting, $300,000 of that amount will be transferred from the reserve to the road paving budget to complete the work.

Engineer Kevin Creagh said Venango Avenue will be the first street to be milled and resurfaced.

The rest of the roads will be worked on in the following order:

Edwards Drive, Graydon Drive, Poplar Drive, Schafer Road, Nill Street, William Street, Pfeifer Street, Lori Anny Way, Over Street, Bowens Alley, Vermillion Drive, Bismark Drive, G Street, Mandrake Drive, Heather Drive, Robin-Del Drive, Aleta Street, Berner Street, Marjorie Drive, Morgan Drive.

Also, Franklin Street, Orchard Street, Reese Avenue, Braun Street, Seel Street, Alexander Street, Charles Street, Rutgers Drive, Wooster Drive, Mica Drive, Hemlock Drive, East Elfinwilde Road, Fieldstone Drive, Woodland Road, Henrietta Street, Clearview Road, Clearview Drive and Hamilton Avenue.
