Meeting to discuss improvements
GAI Consultants will present schematic design options for the North Park Lake Trail Gateways and Municipal Row Path and accept public comments on the projects at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Rose Barn on Pearce Mill Road.
The meeting will be sponsored by Allegheny County and the Allegheny County Parks Foundation.
Pashek Associates will present plans for the South Park Fairgrounds oval improvements at 7 p.m. Jan. 30 at the South Park Home Economics Buildings.

Holocaust projects on display
Holocaust Survivor Research Projects assembled by eighth-graders in Kim Morris' language arts class at Mars Area Middle School will be on display Tuesday through Jan. 31 in Mars Area Public Library, 107 Grand Ave. Several students will present their projects at 7 p.m. Jan. 28.
In their language arts classes, middle school eighth-graders are reading "The Diary of Anne Frank" as well as studying the experiences of those who survived the Holocaust. The students are also researching the Holocaust through the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum website.
McKnight Road restriction
Traffic will be restricted to a single lane from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays through Jan. 25 during repairs to the bridge that carries McKnight Road over Ingomar Road.
Bridge maintenance crews from the state Department of Transportation will perform the work. The single-lane traffic pattern will occur in both directions between Arcadia and Blazier drives. One lane will remain open in each direction at all times.
Burtner Road closes
Work to replace a large drainage pipe has closed Burtner Road between Route 28 and Ridge Road. The road remains open to local traffic. About 1,445 vehicles use the road each day.
Motorists face a detour on Ridge, Burtner, Bakerstown roads and Route 28.
The project will continue through mid-February. Allison Park Contractors Inc. is doing the work.
Kean Quest Talent Search
Contestant registration is under way for the annual Kean Quest Talent Search, which will be held from Jan. 27 to April 5 in the Kean Theatre, 5847 Meridian Road.
Presented by St. Barnabas Charities as a fundraising event, the talent search, formerly known as Kean Idol, is in its 10th season.
Amateur singers of all ages are eligible to perform in the local version of the television shows "American Idol" and "The Voice." The contest will have two categories - a youth competition for ages 18 and younger and an adult competition for vocalists ages 19 and older.
Among the former contestants are Jackie Evancho, who was an "America's Got Talent" runner up, and Sarah Marince, a country singer who is featured in Eat 'n Park commercials.
Tickets to Kean Quest Talent Search preliminary rounds are $10; proceeds will benefit St. Barnabas Free Care Fund, which in 2011 provided more than $5.2 million to needy patients at St. Barnabas Nursing Home, Valencia Woods at St. Barnabas and The Arbors at St. Barnabas.

Peebles Road remains closed
Motorists are reminded that work to install a large drain pipe across Peebles Road continues, closing the road until Jan. 25.
The road is open only to local traffic.
The detour is Hemlock Drive, Babcock Boulevard and Duncan Avenue.
About 3,228 vehicles use this section of Peebles Road on an average day.
PennDOT's contractor for the work is Allison Park Contractors Inc.
