Hampton-Shaler Water Authority is negotiating with Etna to acquire its water system.
"We are currently in the discussion phase," said M. Richard Dunlap, Hampton-Shaler Water Authority board member.
"The projection under negotiation is that it would be an asset acquired at no cost."
He said the deal likely would take place in the spring.
"It would be a win-win for everyone, because water rates will probably go down as a result," Mr. Dunlap said.
Mr. Son said the Hampton-Shaler authority, when it was created in the spring, intended to expand its services and sell water to other townships.
"The Water Authority is looking for new customers all the time," he said, noting that employees at the Etna site would not lose their jobs. "It's a small system in comparison to ours, but Etna has a good water source and a fairly decent infrastructure."
• Council approved Katti Stoller's request to convert the former Crowd Pleasers bar, 2232 W. Hardies Road, into a veterinary clinic.
• Council also approved a revised North Hampton Commons site plan, which will renovate the former Landmark Manor motel and restaurant on Route 8 to accommodate a restaurant, office and storage space and 50 apartment units.
An office complex known as Mount Nebo Towne Center is being planned for 1700 Mount Nebo Road, not far from the Interstate 79 interchange.
A listing on the Grubb and Ellis website notes that 15,000 square feet are available for retail or office space.
Ohio Township manager John Sullivan said the developer has not approached the township about plans for the site.
A Sheetz convenience store and gas station also is under construction in that area and is expected to open early in 2013.
