Council members are considering an ordinance to get establishments with gaming machines to pay the township's fee for such machines on time, if not early.
During council's agenda-setting meeting Oct. 10, zoning officer Martin Orban said, "Our staff has had difficulty in collecting our fee."
The proposed law would institute a 2 percent per month penalty on businesses that pay late. There currently is a flat fee per machine.
He said businesses that have more machines would get a break on the dollar amount of excess units. If they pay early, he said, they will get a 2 percent reduction for the first 30 days; then it would revert to a flat rate. Council is expected to discuss the proposal Wednesday.
