Negotiators for the Mars Area Education Association will meet with the full school board for the first time Wednesday evening.
Previously, Superintendent William Pettigrew and Business Manager Jill Swaney handled negotiations for the district.
"Now we are at the climax of the plot development. We hope we get some resolution," Mark Lewandowski, a member of the teaches' negotiating team, said at the school board meeting Tuesday. "We hope, at the end of this time, we can relieve some of the tension in the community."
Mr. Pettigrew said the negotiations have gone well so far. "If we stay late enough, we can probably settle tomorrow," he said. "I don't think were very far away, to be perfectly honestly with you."
The teachers' contract expired June 30, and teachers gave the negotiating team the authorization to call a strike if negotiations break down.
The district is also negotiating with the support staff union.
