A Butler County man was being held in jail today on charges that he sexually assaulted a 6-month-old girl.
State police wrote in an affidavit of probable cause that Stephen Batchelder, 33, of Butler, admitted to inappropriately touching a 6-month-old girl he was babysitting in 2002 or 2003 in part because living with his actions was "like a recurring nightmare."
Troopers wrote that Mr. Batchelder's actions came to light this year, when he confessed to a long-time girlfriend who thought he was cheating on her and wanted to know about every transgression that occurred during their time dating. That woman contacted the girl's mother and police eventually intervened.
The affidavit says Mr. Batchelder also "went into detail" with his girlfriend about interactions he had with the 6-month-old girl's sister but it does not expand upon what those actions included.
Investigating troopers could not immediately be reached on Wednesday afternoon to comment on the case. They wrote in court paperwork that Mr. Batchelder said he "has a sexual addiction and needs help."
