Butler County crash kills one, injures one

One man was killed and his passenger critically injured in a car crash in Butler County early Monday.

Nicholas Spisak, 23, of West Sunbury, was pronounced dead at UPMC Presbyterian.

State police said Mr. Spisak was driving a 1994 Chevrolet Camero was headed north on Route 308 in Clay when he crossed the center line and traveled into the path of a Waste Management vehicle driven by Wayne Miller, 32, of Parker, Armstrong County, at around 4:45 a.m. The two vehicles collided, and Mr. Spisak's Camero veered off the road and into a tree. Mr. Spisak's passenger, 18-year-old Maloney Birckbicher of Hilliards, Butler County, was thrown from the car. Mr. Spisak had to be extricated by firefighters.

Ms. Birckbicher was taken to Allegheny General Hospital, where she remained in critical condition Monday night.

Mr. Miller was not injured.
