The winter solstice is the longest night of the year, but if you're a pint-sized goblin, canvassing a spooky neighborhood, you might believe differently.

Tuesday is Halloween and, below, you'll find a list of times for trick-or-treating, followed by some other "spirited" activities planned for communities in the North.

Trick or treat

5 to 8 p.m.: Millvale

5:30 to 8 p.m.: Etna

6 to 7 p.m.: Butler, Butler Township, Connoquenessing borough and township, Evans City

6 to 7:30 p.m.: Aspinwall

6 to 8 p.m.: Aleppo, Avalon, Bellevue, Ben Avon, Brackenridge, Bradford Woods, Clinton, Cranberry, East Deer, Edgeworth, Emsworth, Fawn, Fox Chapel, Forward, Franklin Park, Frazer, Hampton, Harmar, Harmony, Indiana Township, Jackson, Kilbuck, Leet, Marshall, McCandless, O'Hara, Ohio Township, Pine, Richland, Ross, Seven Fields, Sewickley, Shaler, Sharpsburg, Springdale Township, Tarentum, West Deer, Zelienople

6:30 to 7:30 p.m.: Adams

6:30 to 8:30 p.m.: Mars

6:30 to 8:45 p.m.: Blawnox

Aspinwall -- Costume contest in front of borough building starts at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Candy given out at fire hall at same time.

Blawnox -- Costume parade begins at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Woodland and Freeport roads.

Millvale -- Parade starts at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Hardee's and marches down North Avenue to Lincoln Avenue, ending at the recreation center for activities.

Pine -- North Way Christian Community Church, 12121 Perry Highway, will be host to a Family Fall Harvest Celebration from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Indoor and outdoor activities for kids of all ages will be accompanied by an optional sampling of foods prepared by three community restaurants. Select three menu items for $10, with proceeds to benefit worldwide missions. Costumes are welcomed, but should not be scary.

On other dates:

Butler -- Butler County Historical Society will hold a historic Halloween party from 8 p.m. to midnight Saturday in the grand ballroom of Cornerstone Commons, 201 S. Main St. Tickets are $13 a person or $25 a couple, and include dancing, refreshments and more. Call 724-283-8116.

Butler -- Victims Outreach Intervention Center will hold a costume extravaganza at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Hindman Hall, Route 68. Activities will include music from a blues band, a costume contest, food and more. Individual tickets are $20; $35 for couples. Call 724-933-7600.

Marshall -- Marchers in the township's Halloween parade should wear costumes and meet at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Warrendale fire station, 270 Northgate Drive, to march to Warrendale Park for activities and refreshments. Call 724-935-3090.

McCandless -- Hear spooky Halloween stories at 2 p.m. Sunday at Northland Public Library. 300 Cumberland Road. Costumes optional. Stories may not be suitable for preschoolers. Free. Call 412-366-8100.

Richland -- Share your own scary stories and hear others at 7 p.m. Monday at the Northern Tier Library, 4015 Dickey Road. To register, call 724-449-2665.

West View -- The parade will start at 7 p.m. Monday at Highland Avenue and Perry Highway. It will proceed down Perry Highway to Center Avenue. Residents may register from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at the borough building. Registration will qualify you for a goodie bag and the costume contest.

Zelienople -- Parade begins at 2 p.m. Saturday at the library, proceeds along Main Street.
