A man was shot and killed early Monday morning in Braddock, the borough's first homicide in more than five years, Mayor John Fetterman said.
The Allegheny County medical examiner's office identified the man as Derrail Roilton, 24, of Braddock.
He was pronounced dead at 3:26 a.m. outside a home in the 600 block of Second Street. He was found near the home and had been shot at least six times, said Allegheny County police Superintendent Charles Moffatt.
Mr. Fetterman said the borough just finished its "quietest" summer in history, with not a single "legitimate" call to report that shots were fired.
The borough's last homicide was in May 2008.
Allegheny County police are leading the investigation and were following leads Monday, Superintendent Moffatt said.
Mr. Fetterman said a police car was stationed about a block and a half away, so officers were able to respond quickly.
Mr. Roilton died of gunshot wounds to the head and chest, according to the medical examiner's office.
