An owner of a Wilkins bar and restaurant that was padlocked on Friday for failure to pay $65,000 in Allegheny County drink taxes said Sunday that the current owners paid the taxes the previous owners failed to pay and the restaurant is open for business.
Ross Paullet, an owner of Brewstone Beer Co., at 3466 William Penn Highway, said Sunday night that the debt has been paid.
"The present ownership is not responsible," he said. "We did pay it."
The restaurant, which opened in July 2012, had paid the tax once -- in the first month it was open, according to the Allegheny County treasurer's office.
According to its website, Brewstone has two other locations in Indianapolis and Chicago and plans to open two others in Ohio and Philadelphia.
