A 4-year-old boy drowned in a neighbor's swimming pool Saturday evening, according to state police at Kittanning.
Police said the child had wandered away from his house to a neighbor's property about 100 feet away in Washington Township, Armstrong County. Police said the child climbed over a locked gate that blocked access to the deck of the above-ground pool.
The boy was identified by the Allegheny County Medical Examiner as Colby Nickel. His death was ruled an accident due to drowning.
Police said family members began looking for him and found him motionless in the pool. Despite efforts to revive him on the scene and at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC, the child died.
Police said the incident began unfolding at 6:30 p.m.
