White Oak council on Monday night voted to approve construction of a 1,374-square-foot community center building on athletic association property at a cost of $1,144,366.
Two rooms currently used by the White Oak Athletic Association for either meetings or judo would also be used for the community center.
Council President Dave Pasternak said the vote will actually enable the township secretary to fill out and submit final paperwork needed to get a $500,000 state grant for the project. Borough administrative assistant Michelle Gessner said the money will come from the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program.
Borough officials will match the grant money with $500,000 from White Oak's capital improvement fund.
Donald Hultberg, an engineering consultant for the EADS Group, which provides engineering services for the borough, said White Oak will probably seek bids for construction of the center in the spring.
