July Fourth activities in the East suburban area

Here are some places where you may enjoy holiday sights and sounds as we celebrate July Fourth.

Monroeville -- The borough's Independence Day activities will begin at 9 a.m. Thursday with a parade along Monroeville's Miracle Mile. The parade will travel westbound along Route 22 and end at the lower section of the Macy's parking lot at Monroeville Mall. The day will conclude with a fireworks show at 9:30 p.m. behind the Monroeville Mall Annex. Details: www.monroeville.pa.us.

McKeesport -- The city starts celebrating at 7 p.m. Thursday at Lions Band Shell in Kenzie Park. Activities include a concert by Tres Lads followed by fireworks at dusk. Details: www.mc-keesport.org.

Oakmont -- The Oakmont Country Club will host Fourth of July fireworks, beginning at dark. Details: 412-828-8000.

In Westmoreland County:

Latrobe -- The city celebrates at 10:30 a.m. Thursday with a parade that steps off on Irving Avenue, followed by amusement rides, crafts, food and game booths at 1 p.m. in Legion Keener Park. Bands will be performing and various contests will be held all afternoon in the park, concluding with fireworks at 10 p.m. in the park area. Rain date for the fireworks is Saturday.
