Four people, including an armed security officer for UPMC, were arrested Wednesday after police saw them engage in a drug transaction.
Shawn Fitzpatrick, 30, of Brookline was in uniform and carrying a loaded Glock 9 mm when he was arrested, said Mike Manko, spokesman for the Allegheny County District Attorney's office.
The arrests came after police said they watched early Wednesday morning as four people drove into a Braddock alley and a man there completed a hand-to-hand transaction with one of the passengers, John Cicchitello, 45, of Swissvale.
When officers conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle, Mr. Cicchitello was found to have a bundle of heroin.
Mr. Fitzpatrick claimed a bullet resistant vest, two boot knives and a folding knife that were in the vehicle, police said. He also told police the contents of a backpack in the vehicle were his, including five hypodermic needles, a strap to be used as a tourniquet, sterile water and a cotton ball with heroin residue on it.
Mr. Cicchitello; Jamie Betten, 29, and Cathy Montalbano, 54, both of Swissvale; and Mr. Fitzpatrick all face drug charges.
The arrests were a result of a District Attorney Narcotics Enforcement Team operation, with assistance from North Versailles and Swissvale police, Mr. Manko said.mobilehome - breaking - neigh_east
