It's cap and gown time for the class of 2013. Here is a list of commencements for high schools in the East.
East Allegheny -- Commencement for 148 seniors will be held at 6:30 p.m. June 7 at the high school stadium, 1150 Jacks Run Road, North Versailles. If the weather is bad, ceremonies move to the high school auditorium. Admission to either is by ticket only.
Student commencement speakers are class officers Samuel Richardson, president; Luke Nicklow, vice president; Stephanie Minnich, secretary; and Jayla Jones, treasurer.
Gateway -- Commencement for 331 students will be held at 7 p.m. next Thursday at the high school stadium, 3000 Gateway Campus Blvd. in Monroeville. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony moves indoors to the high school sports complex gym -- admission there is by ticket only. Student soloists are Joshua Rousse, Ashley Bloom, Irene Grysiak, Carissa Machi, and student conductor, Jacob Churilla.
McKeesport Area -- Commencement for 272 students will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Weigle-Schaeffer Stadium, 1960 Eden Park Blvd., McKeesport. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony moves to the high school auditorium. Admission is limited to two seats per graduate and by ticket only. Students will be allotted four red tickets to be used for the outdoor commencement and two blue tickets for the auditorium ceremony. Overflow seats will be available in the stadium (if outside) and the gym/cafeteria (if indoors). Overflow seats are sold for $2 by the senior class to help defray the cost of the prom.
Speakers are principal Mark P. Holtzman; Linda L. Croushore, president of the high school alumni association; and superintendent Timothy M. Gabauer.
Penn Hills -- Commencement for 362 students will be at 7 p.m. June 7 at the Ginley Stadium, 20 Valmartin Drive. If weather is inclement, the ceremony moves to the gym at the new senior high school, 309 Collins Drive. Tickets will be limited to five per senior if the ceremony moves indoors.
Student speakers are Jordan Terry, Ben Blinn and Peter Gula. The class has eight valedictorians.
Plum -- Commencement for 320 students will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the high school stadium, 900 Elicker Road. Plum. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony moves to the main gym with admission by ticket only.
Final commencement speakers are still to be determined. Shuttle parking is available at O'Block Junior High and at St. John the Baptist beginning at 5 p.m.
Riverview -- Commencement for 86 students will be held at 7 p.m. next Thursday at Riverside Park, 767 Fifth Ave. in Oakmont. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony moves to the Tenth Street Auditorium, 701 10th Street in Oakmont. Guest speakers are traditionally the valedictorian and salutatorian, who have yet to be announced.
Wilkinsburg -- Commencement for 56 students will be at 7 p.m. June 20 at Graham Field, 1125 Princeton Blvd. in Wilkinsburg. If weather is bad, ceremonies will be held in the high school auditorium, where admission will be by ticket only. A list of speakers is being compiled.
Woodland Hills -- Commencement for 268 seniors will be 7 p.m. Tuesday in the high school soccer stadium behind the gymnasium, 2550 Greensburg Pike. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held in the high school gym with admission by blue ticket only.
Speakers are Jada Brentle, student council president, and Blair Mundy, senior class president.
In Westmoreland County
Derry Area -- Commencement for 180 students will be held at 7 tonight at the high school stadium, 988 N. Chestnut St. Ext. If the weather is bad, the ceremony moves indoors to the middle school auditorium with admission by ticket only. .
Speakers are Nicole Klapchar, class president; Sara Peterson, valedictorian; Naomi Anderson, salutatorian; and Shayna Fiorina, Daniel Monteparte and Breana Liberoni.
Franklin Regional -- Commencement for 305 students will be held at 6:45 p.m. June 7 at the Franklin Regional Panther Stadium in Murrysville. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony moves to the high school gym with admission by ticket only.
Student speakers are Jonathan Palmer, class president; Zohair H. Azmi, valedictorian; Joshua William Werns, class orator.
Greater Latrobe -- Commencement for 310 students will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the high school auditorium, 131 High School Road, Latrobe. Admission is by ticket only.
Student speakers are valedictorian Kevin Davoli and salutatorian Robert Vasinko.
Greensburg Salem -- Commencement for 210 students will be at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday at Offutt Field, 302 S. Urania Ave., Greensburg. If the weather is inclement, commencement moves into the high school auditorium. Ticket holders will be seated first, then those without tickets may enter. Student speakers are Jeremy Branthoover and Courtney Wright.
Hempfield -- Commencement for 520 students will be held at 7 p.m. next Thursday at Spartan Stadium, 4345 Route 136, Greensburg. Inclement weather will move the ceremony back a day to 7 p.m. June 7 at the stadium. If weather is also bad that day, ceremonies move to the Field House. Admission to the field complex is by ticket only. Speakers will be announced later.
Jeannette -- Commencement for 80 students will be held at 7 p.m. tomorrow in the high school auditorium, 800 Florida Ave., Jeannette. Speaker is superintendent Matthew Hutcheson.
Norwin -- Commencement for 400 students was May 24 at the high school stadium.
Speakers were Macy Divens, Nicholas Brady, Joshua Ellwood, Corinne Dally, Alayna Sanderson, Allison Green, Rachel Karl, Nathaniel Andreyko and Marissa Huss.
Penn-Trafford -- Commencement for 358 students was May 24 at Warrior Stadium. Student speakers were valedictorian Julie Hartz and salutatorians Grant Smith, Zachary Diable and Julia Wimer.
