Police have arrested a 16-year-old and charged him in the shooting death of another 16-year-old Friday night in Rankin after a robbery, Allegheny County police said.
The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's office identified the victim as Delasia Dutrieuille. County police announced this morning that Londell Jones of Rankin was arrested and charged with homicide.
Police were dispatched at 7:43 p.m. Friday for the shooting on Kenmawr Avenue in Hawkins Village, a county dispatch supervisor said. Ms. Dutrieuille was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:50 p.m.
A tweet from the county said police were searching for two armed men, last seen at the wooded area of Corey Avenue and Fourth Street in Braddock. One man may have entered a building on Holland Avenue, it said.
The Allegheny County homicide Unit is investigating.
Investigators believe that Ms. Dutrieuille had been robbed shortly before the shooting, and that she had confronted one of the robbers in the housing complex, according to Lt. Andrew Schurman of the homicide unit. That person then shot her, he said. Police said the shooting was captured on video surveillance and the footage is being analyzed.
Anyone who saw any or all of the incident is asked to call the county Police Homicide Unit at 412-473-1300.
