Police are investigating a triple shooting at Edgewood Towne Centre that left three bystanders wounded in the crossfire, one critically, this afternoon.
Edgewood police Chief Robert Payne said surveillance video in the plaza showed one of the male suspects walking past the Villa retail store shortly before 4:30 p.m. when he recognized someone he knew inside and started firing into the store at him. The man inside returned gunfire.
Chief Payne said the suspects continued shooting at each other while running in opposite directions. Neither of the shooters was wounded but the three bystanders were shot in the crossfire, the chief said.
Chief Payne said one person was shot in the leg, another in the buttocks and the third in the upper torso. The latter victim was taken to UPMC Presbyterian, where she is believed to be in critical condition, he said. Their ages and identities have not been released.
Police are still searching for the suspects.
Allegheny County homicide detectives were at the scene.
One officer who was at the nearby Giant Eagle making an arrest in an unrelated incident immediately responded to the shootings, according to a witness.
The front doors to both the Villa and the Foot Locker next door were shot out. One witness said he heard people arguing and he ran into the Dollar Tree store to be safe.
South Braddock Avenue was blocked off for a few blocks and traffic is being rerouted from South Braddock onto Schoyer Avenue.
Officers from Swissvale, Edgewood and Braddock Hills police departments also responded.mobilehome - homepage - breaking - neigh_east
