The former bookkeeper for a Monroeville veterinary hospital will serve 11 1/2 to 23 months in jail for stealing almost $400,000 from her employer.

Jennifer Schneiders pleaded guilty Monday before Allegheny County Common Pleas Judge Edward J. Borkowski to three counts of theft.

Ms. Schneiders, 35, of New Kensington worked for AVets on Northern Pike for 15 years. She was fired from her position as account administrator in September 2011.

According to detectives with the Allegheny County district attorney's office, Ms. Schneiders was responsible for depositing daily receipts at the clinic and paying the facility's bills.

She was accused of taking cash out of the daily receipts beginning in July 2009. Investigators believe she used the money to gamble at the Meadows and Rivers casinos.

In addition to her jail sentence, Ms. Schneiders must serve 14 years probation.
