Export native Chris Domencic, a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy and a Navy SEAL, was appointed to the 2012-13 class of White House Fellows, the President's Commission on White House Fellowships has announced.

Cmdr. Domencic has deployed to Central and South America, Africa, Europe and the Middle East, including four deployments to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and two deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, according to a news release. His military decorations include four Bronze Stars.

The White House Fellows Program was created in 1964 by President Lyndon B. Johnson to give promising American leaders "firsthand, high-level experience with the workings of the federal government, and to increase their sense of participation in national affairs," according to the release. The fellowships are designed to encourage active citizenship and a lifelong commitment to service.
