Pittsburgh police today released the name of a man they arrested Thursday evening in connection with a Chateau bank robbery -- but said they were still looking for the robber.
Christopher Clinton, 28, of Sheraden faces one count of criminal conspiracy in the afternoon robbery of a Citizens Bank in the 1600 block of Metropolitan Street.
According to a criminal complaint, Mr. Clinton flagged down an officer after the robbery and initially told him he had been carjacked. He later changed his story and said that he knew, but would not name, the robber and knew the man had robbed banks in the past, police wrote.
Mr. Clinton told police he parked his car around the corner from the bank and then drove off when the man jumped into the back seat of his Ford Expedition following the robbery. He said he flagged down the officer because he wanted help for his drug addiction.
Police were still searching for the robber today. Witnesses told police that a man wearing a tan mask or a stocking on his face jumped over the counter, grabbed money, jumped back over the counter and then tripped, briefly fell and then ran out of the bank.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Pittsburgh police robbery squad at 412-323-7151.
