An Allentown man was arraigned this morning on charges that he killed a man in Homestead this weekend after a fight about a break-up.
Wilbert Keith Johnson, 36, is being held in the Allegheny County Jail in death of Qaeed Braxton, 36, of Duquesne, early Sunday.
Allegheny County homicide detectives wrote in a criminal complaint that a woman, who they did not name, told Mr. Johnson shortly before the shooting that she no longer wanted to be romantic with him and that she was seeing someone else, at which point he threatened to kill her and the other man.
In an effort to get Mr. Johnson to leave her alone, detectives wrote, the woman agreed to meet him at the Ragtime Saloon. Instead, the person she was seeing met Mr. Johnson there; Mr. Braxton also was in the bar, police said.
The person she is seeing, who is not named, and Mr. Johnson got into a fight in the bar, police wrote.
When that person and Mr. Braxton left, Mr. Johnson and another person left and began searching in a car for something, according to the complaint. A witness told police they heard a single gunshot a short while later.
Medics arrived at the intersection of 8th Avenue and Amity Street about 12:34 a.m. and found Mr. Braxton lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the chest.
Mr. Johnson faces charges of homicide, terroristic threats and a gun violation.
