A man was shot to death in a parked vehicle overnight after leaving a North Side bar at closing time.
Fabian Nixon, 40, of the North Side was pronounced dead at the scene after being shot around 1:55 a.m., authorities said this morning.
Mr. Nixon had exited Jack's Bar in the 3100 block of McClure Avenue and had just gotten in the vehicle when the shooting occurred, according to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office.
"The minute he shut the door and put the keys in the ignition, they opened fire," a forensic investigator at the medical examiner's office said.
Police got a call for shots fired and responded.
Officers found Mr. Nixon unresponsive and sitting in the driver's seat. He had been shot multiple times, according to Pittsburgh police Lt. Daniel Herrmann.
The Pittsburgh police homicide squad is investigating.
Lt. Herrmann said there was no indication that Mr. Nixon was involved in a dispute at the bar.
"He was out for a good time," Lt. Herrmann said, adding that patrons who had seen Mr. Nixon had been cooperative.
Lt. Herrmann said Mr. Nixon's assailant ran up to the car from a vacant lot and shot him.
"We have no idea why," Lt. Herrmann said.
Homicide detectives plan later today to review videotape from inside the bar and from a nearby company.
Police are asking anyone with information to call 911 or the homicide squad at 412-323-7161. Callers can remain anonymous.mobilehome - neigh_city - breaking
