A Pittsburgh police commander who was injured in a car crash last year is scheduled to return to work next week.
Cmdr. Linda Rosato-Barone, a 33-year veteran of the force, will return to work Monday to head the narcotics and vice unit, acting police chief Regina McDonald said in a statement.
Cmdr. Rosato-Barone, 55, underwent surgery in July 2012 after her pelvis, femur and ribs were broken in a crash on Steubenville Pike Road. The commander and her teenage daughter were riding in her department-issued car when a North Fayette woman crossed the center line and struck them head-on. Early reports indicated that the other driver, who was not charged, might have had a medical emergency in the moments before the crash.
Cmdr. Kathy Degler, who has been overseeing the narcotics and vice unit, will return to the city's Zone 4 station in Squirrel Hill when Cmdr. Rosato-Barone returns.
