A Beltzhoover man was shot this evening at the Grandview Playground near children and other adults who were playing basketball, police said.
The 21-year-old victim, whose name was not released, was taken to UPMC Mercy with gunshot wounds to the abdomen and leg, Pittsburgh police Sgt. Chad O'Brien said. His condition was believed to be critical but stable.
After the shooting occurred in the Mount Washington park around 6:10 p.m., police searched the nearby wooded hillside unsuccessfully for the two men who were involved. It was uncertain what prompted the shooting, as witnesses reported no disturbance taking place before several shots rang out, Sgt. O'Brien said.
The sergeant estimated 15 people were present nearby using the park at the time of the shooting. There were no other injuries.
