New charges were added Wednesday against the suspended principal of Pittsburgh Brookline K-8 accused last week of exposing himself in a McCandless gym.
In a second incident, Alfonzo DeIuliis, 37, of Hampton was charged with a count each of open lewdness and indecent exposure. Similar charges were filed Aug. 27 by McCandless police.
Defense attorney Phil DiLucente said his client had no comment, but that his legal team "vehemently" believes Mr. DeIuliis did nothing wrong.
"We will fight these charges -- every single one of them," Mr. DiLucente said outside District Judge William K. Wagner's office, where a preliminary hearing on the first set of charges was postponed Wednesday.
According to a Hampton police criminal complaint, a Slippery Rock University college student came forward last week after learning of the initial allegations from his sister and in media reports. He told police he, too, had an encounter with Mr. DeIuliis at the LA Fitness on Duncan Avenue, a gym the student used on an almost daily basis this summer.
The man told police about an incident in which Mr. DeIuliis masturbated in the gym shower stall across from his and was staring at him at one point, according to the criminal complaint. Mr. DeIuliis had started touching himself in the sauna, the complaint says, before following the man into the shower area.
He told police he had recognized Mr. DeIuliis from a previous visit to the gym. In that conversation, which the student said made him uncomfortable, Mr. DeIuliis introduced himself as "Gino" -- Mr. DeIuliis' father's name, police wrote in the complaint.
The man, who lives with his parents in Ohio Township when he's not in school, told detectives he didn't report the incidents and that he would not be going back to the gym often once he returned to the university.
He had discussed the encounters with friends and family, though, and after news of the accusations broke, the man's sister texted him a photo of Mr. DeIuliis.
He "felt obligated to come forward" because that arrest involved a minor, according to the complaint.
In that set of charges, Mr. DeIuliis is accused of masturbating in the same LA Fitness sauna and asking a 17-year-old boy if he could perform oral sex. He has been on paid administrative leave since then.
A preliminary hearing on both sets of charges has been moved to Oct. 9.
Mr. DeIuliis was appointed principal of Pittsburgh Brookline in July. He started as a district teacher at Pittsburgh Roosevelt PreK-5 in October 2001.
He was in a principal training program in Brookline starting July 2010, and was in another at Pittsburgh Allegheny K-5 a year later.
In August 2011, he moved to Pittsburgh King PreK-8, where he was a clinical resident instructor, a teacher position with additional responsibilities.
District spokeswoman Ebony Pugh said Mr. DeIuliis passed the criminal history and child abuse background checks when he was hired.
His child abuse clearances were updated in 2009 and again in April, she said.
