A man sneaked into a woman's West End home this morning, held a knife to her throat and stole cash from her dresser drawer, police said.
Officers from the Pittsburgh police Zone 6 station in the West End went to the 500 block of Main Street shortly before 7:30 a.m. today for a report that a white man in his mid-30s who was wearing a dirty gray hoodie and jeans had made his way into the woman's home and threatened her.
The woman, whose name police did not release, told police she was in her living room getting ready for school when she heard someone behind her and turned around to see a man with a knife in his hand. The man "held the knife to her throat, told her to sit on the couch and not to move," police spokeswoman Diane Richard wrote in an email.
The woman told police she watched while the man went into her kitchen and lifted up the stove top, then ripped open a bag of her boyfriend's clothes and then went through the dresser drawers and closet in her bedroom.
She told police the man left through the back door, which she left open while she was getting ready.
Pittsburgh robbery detectives are leading the investigation.
