Someone used gasoline to burn a cross into the grass outside a Pittsburgh elementary school early this morning, police said.
Pittsburgh police went to Pittsburgh Mifflin PreK-8 in Lincoln Place between 12:15 and 12:30 a.m. today and found the cross, which is about 10 feet tall by 10 feet wide.
A motive for the burning is unclear.
Arson detectives are investigating.
"The district is disheartened to hear about an act of vandalism," spokeswoman Heather Hopson said in a statement.
She said workers from the district's plant operations staff removed the damaged grass and replanted more in its place this morning.
