Significant rush-hour delays are expected at what was thought to be the fastest way to the South Hills after the outbound Liberty Tunnel shut down for construction.
A tree fell across McArdle Roadway around 4 p.m., an Allegheny County dispatch supervisor said.
The road, which is PennDOT's official detour around the tunnel, was blocked in both directions between Grandview Avenue and the Liberty Bridge but reopened about 4:50 p.m.
The Pittsburgh Department of Public Works is en route, the dispatch supervisor said, and police and fire crews are on the scene.
